[Gllug] A proposal

Over the last few weeks,
I think we have had several good topics on the list,
related to the Linux kernel, and all on-topic for this
list.

Examples are the 2.5.x compilation thread started off
by Stephen Harker, and the discussion on ACPI kicked off
by Axel and Dave Jones.

I've also been kicking around an idea in my head for
a beginner's tutorial on how to download, configure,
compile and install a kernel.
Bit of unfounded free thought here - I think more people
are getting into Linux now, and I think it is important for
'us' to pass on the knowledge that you CAN configure this stuff,
and that you learn by doing that,
even though in your daily job/production server you may
go with pre-packaged kernels.

Anyway, how about my proposal.
Each week (two weeks?) we choose a topic from Linux.
It could be, say, 'State of ACPI'
or 'PCI hotswapping' or 'Logical Volume management'.
We get the ball rolling,
and hopefully get some input from an expert, maybe pointers
to good links.
The discussion goes on for a fixed time - say two days?
We can either conduct the discussion on another list maybe,
or simply use a phrase in the header to allow people who
don't want to tune in to skip it.

Feedback?
