I would like to see this stand up in court. Microsoft may be able to license
what they do with their software, such as limit it to one PC but they are not
selling you your PC, which is what the OEM would be doing, and which is a
physical object. I don't think washing machine manufacturers can tell you that
you must use a particular kind of powder. And Windows doesn't come into the
picture if you are using Linux to format and reinstall, all you are using that
you bought from the OEM is the physical components. And although IANAL I don't
think you can have such licenses for hardware.
