I do not believe anything more sophisticated than 'ls' is supported under FTP

In any event any enhanced ability needs to exist in both the server and the
client, I believe,  as the client needs to 'tell' the server what it wants to
do and the server has to be capable of doing it.

Maybe some clever clients are able to to succesive 'ls' commands through the
distant directory tree ??
