YES! thankyou, I owe you 1 pint =) I needed to know the ctrl+alt+v 
thing, as I couldn't work out how to get a configuration dialog up for 
it on my screen. Running klipper from the terminal produced the line:

klipper is already running!

which was starting to make me want to kill things (possibly even kill -9 
them...)
