LVRG Event Invitation: talk 'Subversion & Control'

You are invited by the London Virtual Realities Group (lvrg) to an event
celebrating the re-launch of the lvrg events series featuring
presentations on 'subversion & control' from our new thematic programme
(http://www.lvrg.org.uk/lvrg-talk-themes.html).

We are very happy and exited to invite you all to the forthcoming events
as it signifies the revitalisation of the lvrg community after some time
of inactivity. Simon Warner-Bore will remain Chair of the group and I will
coordinate the group activities. As Chair Simon will work with a board of
advisors and myself, all of whom, along with the broader group, will help
seed and plan future lvrg themes and activities.

This is an lvrg members only event - but as always membership is open to
all.

Not a member? Not a problem - ** please send a confirmation email as soon
as possible to s.kueppers at ucl.ac.uk ** and I will add you to the list of
members. [in the near future you will be able to join LVRG via the web
site http://lvrg.org.uk]

The forthcoming event is about redefining the edges of vr practice and we
invite you to join in this explorative process. New technologies and
concepts are undermining and destabilising the traditional understanding
of vr, exploring these new forms requires a redefinition of the field. vr
is taking place in new sectors without users being fully aware of them,
redefining the process of content conception, production,
pre-visualisation and delivery. vr has become a disruptive technology for
some markets changing the professional landscape and broadening the scope
of its application in others.

Key Speakers for the event are:

(1) Bruce Steel from the London based post production company glassworks
[http://www.glassworks.co.uk], makers of the recent series of Bjork music
videos, etc.

(2) Anne Nigten from the V2 lab in Rotterdam [http://www.v2.nl], a culture
and media lab focusing on solutions development in installation design,
conceptual R&D in interactivity, dynamic user interface design.

(3) Dr Anthony Steed from the (Lecturer in Computer Graphics and Virtual
Environments at UCL working on the Equator augmented reality research
project. [http://www.equator.ac.uk/]

In the event we will be presenting content querying the horizon of current
VR practice and hope you will enjoy contributing to the panel
discussion/debates. Throughout the evening we will also be showing project
demos.

There will be lots of time for chatting and meeting speakers etc over
drinks.

The event is being held at:

The VR Centre/ VR Theatre Bartlett School 1-19 Torrington Place Gower
Street

Thursday 14th November 2002 6:15 to 10pm (Enter via main reception)

We are grateful to the London Technology Network for sponsoring this event
and to University College London for letting us host it in the VR Theatre.

Getting there:

Nearest Tube stations: Gower Street, Warren Street, Euston Square

Nearest buses: No.10, 24, 73, 134

The London Virtual Realities Group (lvrg) was formed to create a forum to
enable all interested in virtual realities (vr) - including academics,
artists, industry and media - to meet and share ideas and create
opportunities related to vr. The change from 'virtual reality' to 'virtual
realities' has been made to include a broader conceptions of virtual
reality. lvrg is based in London, but is still open to all.

lvrg membership is free, all that we ask is for members to complete the
membership form (see members).

The group has regular meetings in London, which include
presentations/debates/discussions about philosophical vr issues and
demonstrations of vr technology. At every meeting there are plenty of
opportunities to meet and discuss ideas with others involved or interested
in vr.
