Yeah, the Pro was Intel's first attempt at big iron. AFAIR Pentium Pro
could be used in four processor configurations and was optimised for
running 32bit code. At that time only (in the M$ camp) Windows NT was
true 32 bit. Win95/8 was a mix of 16 and 32 bit. The Pentium II was a
Pro core with MMX that had been tweaked to run 16 code more efficiently.
Intel chose to re-brand the Pro as Xeon.
