Hi,
A couple of days ago a good friend mentioned the " Practice of System & Network administration " by Tom limoncelli & Christine Hogan book . which I found retailled from Amazon at 18.90 UKP (about half the usual price.)

It arrived yesterday and I started reading it in the evening. I finally put it down this morning !!!

At 750 odd pages it is not a little book for proping the coffee table this is definitely a door stop, one to prop open the door to the mind!

It reads like a good novel, you get the impression you are attending a one on one mentoring session from personal tutor.

It is not a how do I edit a script file type of book, this covers why you might need to edit or leave it alone.

For the first time ever { at least since Chris Argyris & Peter Drucker} (and I have a quite a few years & books behind me ) this is a book that covers the reasoning behind being & what you should be doing as a sys op that gives a real world insight into doing the job in an orderly manner rather than being a fire fighter.

I was a sys op many years ago (mainframe in a separate building days)
and I returned to the business 12 years ago. I recognise the truths, that I
have learned, in various parts of the book it also gave me an insight into
my boss's field of thought that clarified an on going situation.

Basically what it boils down to is the best 20 odd UKP I have spent on
my job nuff said.
