This is not true. CVS's built-in file comparison function is geared
only for text files, it needs an external utility to track changes on
binary files. Even then it can't offer the same range of features
available for text files (merge updates, etc).
Improved handling of binaries is something most of the touted
replacements for cvs aim for (though basic things like cleanly handling
renamed files and directories are more important, imo).
