I've no idea what tha actual hardware inside the cartridge is. It will
cheerfully transfer large files at 13-15 Megabytes/sec, with occasional
bursting higher.

The Peerless is a 3 part system - you get a cartridge, a "socket" type
unit which the cartriges plug into, and a base. The base comes as either
USB or firewire, depending which package you buy. It has a little LCD
display for the current transfer rate, and disk usage. The disk usage
doesn't work for me (probably becasue I reformatted the cartridge as
ext2). The windows software apparently allows you to password protect
the volume - I've never tried, and only know about it from reading the
manual.

I've had it a couple of months, and I'm pretty happy with it. I
reinstalled my main system soon after buying it, and cloned the old
system onto the cartridge before starting. Didn't take that long - it's
definitely considerably faster than 100Mbit network transfer speeds.

Mike.
