There are two versions of swap the old (version 0) and the new (version 1),
(see man 8 mkswap) but all modern-ish distributions on x86 will be using
the new version AFAIK.
So the short answer is yes, you should be able to happily share a common
swap partition between those two distributions, and you should be able to
do so between most distros.
