Well I did think that it was a little strange, and I forgot to mention
that too.

If I run as root

ls -l /dev/FIFO.modem
ls: /dev/FIFO.modem: No such file or directory

If someone has this and knows what the settings should be it would help
enormously - I am off to Google again.  Nothing much coming up.
