I agree entirely. A lot of really great OSS projects are cross-platform

*OOo
*MySQL
*PHP (leading onto endless Linux projects that can run on Windows and IIS
-- squirrelmail.org being an example)
*pine
*dia

It would seem a step backwards to deliberately make software Linux only,
when it could run on other platforms. One of Linux's biggest advantages is
the fact it can seamlessly interact with other platforms in terms of
networking protocols, and read many more Hard disk formats than any other
OS.

Wouldn't that idea be a case of "if you can't beat them, join them"?

Maybe not but the phrase came to mind.
