Hi

You may well have already come across this problem so apologies in advance
if I am 'preaching to the converted' !

I have a Redhat 7-based system which included a 'do-everthing' 2.4.7 kernel
on the C.D., under which the kbdate utility worked fine.

I updated (as suggested as a result of previous postings) to the 2.4.20
kernel, from sources downloaded from kernel.org. This works fine, but the
kbdrate utility no longer worked - it would simply not set the repeat rate
below the 33 cps set by default. I modded the kernel source (as per something
I found in a 'how-to') and re-compiled so that the kernel did not set the
rate at max but accepted the bios settings. This solved the problem short-term.

I have since managed after much googling to locate the original kbdrate.c source
and recompiled the utility from that source. It now works properly - but I have
no idea why !

Tim
