[Gllug] OT: Photo CDs

Are all photo CDs equal? I'm just about to get some holiday photos
processed (35mm) and thought it would be nifty to have them put on CD
(save me the effort of scaning from prints and hopefully get better
quality).

A friend used truprint but looking at their CD the 'Hi-res' images are only

goldfinch:~/mnt/cdrom% identify HiRes/A_1.jpg
/mnt/temp/HiRes/A_1.jpg JPEG 1536x1024 DirectClass 8-bit 703kb 0.0u 0:01

Frankly I was hoping for a better res than that (my cheapo desktop
scanner can pick out finner detail from the print!)

So will Boots/Snappy Snaps etc photo cds all be the same? If not who
offers the best resolution? Oh and does anyone know of a cheap place
to get all my old negs scanned?
