At the risk of jumping in a bit late (I've been on holiday playing with my new toy
which is a digital camera).

I got a Canon A70. Works nicely as a point and click with presets for things like
shots for scenery, people, speed, nighttime, ... You can also play with things
like: apature, speed (both exposure time and sensitivity (aka ASA ratings)), colour
balance, sounds (I like a click to tell me that it has taken the picture),
... enough buttons to keep me happy.
It will also do multiple shots (2/second) and video (.AVI).
3.2 Mpixel - up to 2048x1536.

Connect to Linux via USB and download with gphoto2, but I sometimes need to power cycle the
camera between operations (eg list files, and download them), so it wont work
with gtkam as this seems to try to probe it several times and so soon fails.
