Unfortunately, the microprocessor requires a precise sequence of simple
commands, the command lengths are determined by the contents of the first
byte of each command, and each is followed by a fixed number of data bytes
as required by that command. Software must present the microprocessor with
the correct machine code for correct operation. Some data errors can be
removed by software routines, as long as those routines are not corrupted.
Once the software routines are corupted anything can happen. Diagnostic
routines in BIOS can do some checks on the computer hardware during booting,
but once running everything must just work.
