Yes it is. It doesn't *have* to be, but in real life, it is. The
perl coding I have done has been perfectly readable (blowing my
own trumpet, yes, but who cares -- it's true). But perl just has too
many seductive toys to lure the unwary into writing write-only code.
And it's my experience that *very* few (perhaps less than 2% of all
perl coders) have the strength of will to resist. Hell most of them
don't want to resist, and actually think they're writing good code.
The chances of having any group of coders that can all write good,
readable perl is vanishingly small with even small groups, which
IMHO <span class=flamebait>makes perl an inappropriate choice for
most projects</span>.
Sure, it's easy to write obfuscated code in any language. One has
only to look at the IOCCC. But it's not only easier in perl, you're
also less likely to be able to hire competent perl coders who know
how to avoid it.
