I thought initially that my issues with perl were because of my lack of
familiarity with the language, but two years later I still had problems
reading my own code afterwards. This is the only language I've had this
problem with.
Eventually I decided to ditch Perl, even though I had a considerable
mental investment in it, and go with C and Python depending on what I
was doing (I use Java for work too, but I'm not so keen on it).
Obviously language preferences are personal decisions, but I wouldn't
use Perl for any serious work now. I'm quite happy to believe that
other people get on fine with it however, without them being either mad
or wrong :)
