Both of mine (a Classic and an Ultra2) have normal 25 pin serial ports.
The Classic actually has two ports on the one connector but that doesn't
affect using the first with a normal cable. It would certainly need a
special cable to use both, but one is adequate.

My null modem cable is one the Classic's previous owner made out of a
normal modem cable by reversing the two wires.
