Firstly, I must say it's great to have another Linux convert! I'm not
surprised you've developed a dislike for XP, who wouldn't :)

I'm afraid I can't really help with the printing problem as I'm a debian user
so I don't use the tools provided with RedHat.

For the sound there are a few things to check:

with mixer to see if the sound levels/mutes etc are ok... sounds obvious but
you never know :)

That the correct kernel module(driver) is installed. The 'lsmod' command is
your friend here. To find the correct kernel a google search is usually good,
something like "<soundcard> linux kernel module" the I've used the SB16 PCI,
that's the "es1371" module and the soundblaster live which uses the "emu10k1"
module. If you do need to load a module use "modprobe" and then put
the module name in "/etc/modules" to load it automagically on the next boot.

For CD Audio you may want to check the lead from your CDROM to the soundcard,
although if it was working in XP it's probably fine.

If your sing the GNOME desktop then theres also something called ESD, or
Enlightenment Sound Daemon that takes care of feeding multiple audio channels
to the sond card it may be an idea to check its configuration, not sure on
that one as I'm a KDE user...

Hope this helps

Ash.
