No, I wouldn't. But then, it's not even the right etymology. Handicap
was originally a card game dating from the 17th century. As a way to
even the game out, the more tricks you have won, the higher the stake
you have to risk. Because the stake was held in an upturned cap, this
became known as putting your "hand i' the cap".
