Switching on today the confusion is even greater as although the USB
device shows-up in Mandrake Control Centre > Info > USB Devices, these
are absent:

/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/generic
/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc

There is now /dev/scsi/host[1-4] but nothing below lun0 so nothing to mount.

I switched the device to the second USB port and back again but
/proc/scsi/scsi seems to simply add an entry each time. It nows shows 4
duplicate entries ranging from scsi0 to scsi3.

Now, will someone explain to me how Linux is supposed to ready for Joe
SixPack to plug 'n play? (Ducks while eggs thrown). Only joking. I love
Linux dearly. Honest :-)

Garry
