htmlview supports an rc file:

$ cat ~/.htmlviewrc
X11BROWSER=/usr/bin/galeon
TEXTBROWSER=/usr/bin/lyn

Try having 

X11BROWSER="/usr/bin/galeon -remote" 

in yours
