[Gllug] Knoppix on diskless workstation [Mini-ITX]

After the last Gllug meeting I decided to combine a couple of the
exciting technologies I saw there and install Knoppix on a Mini-ITX
diskless workstation (writing instructions as I go).  It's going quite
well but I've hit one oddity.  When I do an "apt-get upgrade" after
installing I get a stream of:

cannot lock locale archive "..."

messages.  Could this be because all the disks are NFS mounted?  Is
there some kind of logging which NFS doesn't support?
