Agreed. I got my experience when I was at uni by writing web pages for
a local ISP and consequently got too interested in that which eventually
saw me dropping out of my degree course. The ISP didn't have any jobs
at the time, but I did end up working for an up and coming ISP which at
the end was merely a PC sales and repair shop in Norwich.

I single handly ran the the ISP operations for about a year (which
included setting up the equipment, building and installing the servers
which initially ran Red Hat 5.2 and Windows NT, writing the Windows
setup CD-ROM to get customers connected to the service (which was a task
and a half in itself in those days), provided technical support for
customers, web designer and implementer for our clients and for the
company's own web site, and when the PC engineer was on holiday I also
had to build new machines and repair old ones) for less than 600 quid
per month (and no overtime). When I went to university, I already
knew a bit of Linux thanks to the folk at Yggradrasil with their flashy
new distribution (running the 0.93 kernel) . Networking (and everything
else) to do with Linux was something I picked up at in the job and in my
own time.

I would like to finish off my degree one day, but at the moment I'm
very content with what I have at the moment.

Regards,

	Martyn
