Does it work under windows or mac os or whatever? (if you are capable of 
testing it with another os that is etc. etc.) 

Also did you set the vci and vpi correctly? One other option is perhaps to try
using usb-uhci instead of uhci as the usb driver module (if you are using a
uhci chipset of course) as when i first tried to get my modem working in Linux
I spent quite a few days before i realised that it wasn't working because of
the usb chipset support (although all of the other usb devices were fine).
