That's not much better:

	foo.gnumeric: XML document text (gzip compressed data, deflated, last modified: Thu Jan  1 01:00:00 1970, os: Unix)

So it's a compressed XML file. Great. Is that from OpenOffice, Gnumeric,
something entirely different? You lose the ability to extract metadata
about the document in any sensible fashion. Far better to have a well
thought out chunked file format.
