This doesn;t surprise me - email is a lot more ignorable.
A snail mail letter is a real physical thing - and looks more impressive.
Also, I suspect MPs are inundated with huge amounts of email lobbying 
(sending a letter to every MP in the house is a lot more work than sending an email to everyone!
