In absolutely no aspect is this any different from what the British did from 
1750 to 1950, and the world seems to have fared not at all badly.

Actually there is one aspect: if America's Empire was anything like as 
extensive as Britain's, then they would be regularly trading with multiple 
Martian outposts. 

Sorry to be dismissive but ... er ... I'm going to be dismissive; railing 
against 'US imperialism' is as laughable as it is naive, and is no more than 
pissing in the wind.
