No more than any other taxation system.  What's more it's not "guilty
until proven innocent" any more than someone driving out of a pub car
park being breathalised.  It's called "reasonable suspicion".

I guess most British people don't object to having a world-class
public broadcaster.  The alternative is Australia's ABC, which gets
its funding cut every time it criticises the current government, to
the point that most of its current affairs programming is now BBC and
Channel 4 material.

Sorry, but I like the Beeb.  Having a special, direct taxation
collection system is far from ideal, but it keeps it further out of
the grubby mitts of politicians.
