[Gllug] Preparing large hard disk for Debian install

It sounds as if windows has set the hard drive up with the wrong geometry.

have you tried booting from a linux resue disk, such as Tom's root boot 
disk and running fdisk.

I think that the install routine for debian is failing as the disk 
partition it is trying to install to is incorrectly set up.

I think that you are correct in that you should use Linux to prepare the 
disk.
