You can get scanners that have autofeeders. They vary in price and speed
the most expensive costing the thick end of £10,000 but are capable of
scanning an A4 sheet at 300dpi in less than a second - the one of these
I used was made by Richo.

Obviously their are cheaper, slower models available.
