I understood dbootstrap allowed you to run one, or the other, but not both at 
the same time, like lilo and grub. Am I wrong? Googling was inconclusive.

One can migrate distributions in shorter steps by actually running one 
distribution inside another using UML: I've successfully run a debian inside 
another a debian, and RH inside debian, I don't imagine debian inside of RH 
would be any different. Both distributions are available at the same time, 
can talk to each other, and so is perfect for a step by step migration. The 
only downside is that a UML virtual machine has circa 80% the performance of 
its host.
