Oh, I think they were very wise to do so. From a business perspective,
Alpha, MIPS and PPC made no sense for Microsoft. They simply didn't
bring in enough revenue to justify their existence. The MIPS and PPC
ports died an early death, and the Alpha port only survived as long
as it did due to being bankrolled by Compac/DEC.

Yeah, from a geek point of view, supporting alternative architectures
is nice, but even Linux is heading back to being Intel only. The Linus
kernel frequently breaks on other CPUs, and maintainers are expected
to fix up the damange later.
