Well, the on-board computers for any fly-by-wire system have 2N+1 CPU's,
each running software written by a different team.
But you will notice from time to time that a hardware manufacturer
recalls a batch of their hard drives - if you install that batch in a
RAID array, it could be *very* bad.
Also, IDE drives are batch-tested - a statistically-valid sample from
the batch is tested, and if the results are appropriate, they all are
used. SCSI and FC/AL drives are individually tested. (That's part of
what you pay for).
