Although the NHS did negotiate a deal with Microsoft (or have a deal
negotiated with them... not necessarily the same thing ;-), there is
certainly an important role played by various unices within the health
service.

At Lewisham, some of our key clinical data systems run on various
flavours of unix, such as Sun and Sco. Linux also gets a look in,
particularly in my field of web development.

Last week I the hard disk died on my new machine and then the CD I was
given to install W2K on the replacement didn't match the serial number
on the sleeve. This was a Good Thing, as I decided to get serious and am
now getting used to using Linux (Mandrake 9.0) as my main desktop
(instead of on a subsidiary machine and a couple of our webservers).

I'd be interested to hear about what others are doing with Linux in the
NHS - I know there are a few other health service bods out there.
