You've got to be very lucky with starting equipstuff and pray a lot when you
get to "starving". 

Of course, as you're not eating anything, it means you can make more
sacrifices when you find an alter to get on your god's good side.

And drink from every fountain in the hopes that can keep
you going... 

One or two of the magic items reduce your need for food.

I'm not mad enough to try it though, I have enough trouble surviving when
playing an unrestricted game.
