Dear Tiago,

It's a long time since I used a modem with Linux, but I do
remember that one of the major problems was the asyncmap.
If both sides can't agree, the link dies.

Try using the simplest asyncmap possible (all special
characters escaped or none, I can't recall) and go from
there.
