It looks like you are using XP. XP in my experience blocks pings, which
is a naive attempt at security. It is probably blocking the traceroute
traffic too.
Is you DNS resolution working properly on the Linux box? What happens
if you do 'dig yahoo.com' If you do not get a load of IP addresses, you
cannot email or browse as the clients cannot resolve their names.
Can you send email from the command line? I am sure you have an
external email account.
try 'dig your.emaildomain.com'
telnet primarymx.emaildomain.com 25
mailserver response
ehlo hereiam
By getting to this stage you will at least be able to see that you can
communicate okay.
You might also want to try browsing to an IP address as it might be that
your dns resolution is failing (which may have shown when you tried to dig)
If the dig does not work, check which name servers you have in
/etc/resolv.conf (note these need to be IPs, not names) You could try
putting 80.234.135.41 (I run an open recursive name server) in as the
first one if your ISPs nameservers are not working (I know that Telewest
was having difficulty resolving on Thursday).
The other thing you can do is try browsing to an IP address
such as http://216.239.33.100
Kind regards
