On my Mandrake setup I typed in   slocate devices.txt
Sure enough this found the document hidden away deep inside the system.
As I have a fresh installation this a.m I had to build the slocate index 
by giving the command slocate -u which 'eventually' will complete the 
task. The file devices.txt is quite complex but you may be able to find 
what you are looking for in the way of Major and Minor numbers.
