Hi,

I *was* running Red Hat 9.0 quite happily until last night!

I ran ...

# apt-get dist-upgrade

... against the FreshRPM servers and downloaded about 60MBs of updates,
did a reboot to make sure all was OK, and now it won't boot.

It gets past the GRUB stage, get through a few pages of text and then it
reads

INIT: version 2.84 booting
INIT: Entering runlevel: 5
INIT: Id "1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id "2" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id "3" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id "4" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id "5" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id "6" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: Id "x" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel

It will then sit there for 5 minutes and repeat the same messages in a
different order.

I've tried using runlevel 3 but get the same result.

Will I be reinstalling tomorrow night??

Thanks
