Appropriately configured, KDE will remotely access smb filesystems in the 
browser using

smb://machine/directory

In the address line. This isn't mounting in the strict sense, but then, 
neither is the 'Netwrok Neighbourhood' approach. Is this the kind of thing 
you're after?
