Highly off topic, but I was very interested in cosmic rays at one point,
still am really.

Extensive air showers are produced by very high energy cosmics, the source
of which is still open to debate, if I'm not wrong.
The distribution ranges up to 10e20 eV or 160 Joules, which are very rare.
