How about channelling it through procmail and letting that call the script?
That's how spamassassin works after all...

I would use a man page & have a fiddle, but this is our
email server, so there's limited room to learn on the job so to speak.
(why oh why couldn't the god of IT aloow me access to a linux box to
practice on first!)
