Hi

I'm in the middle of building a server and as time was running out this
evening (before pub time), as an experiment I though I'd try to redirect
the console to another machine and have crack over the weekend. I can't
seem to access the machine now and I wondered if someone could do a
sanity check for me.

The server is without OS (debian CD in drive, ready to roll) and is a
second-hand VA Linux 2200 which has an Intel 440GX+ Mobo, in the Bios
(recently upgraded to the latest version) there is a hardware console
re-direct option, which I've turned on with the options:

Address: 3F8
IRQ: 4
Baud: 9600
Flow Control: [CTS/RTS +CD]

The server is connected by one of those Blue Cisco rollover cables and
the relevant adapters to another machine that I have SSH access to
through the firewall. This has the latest version of ckermit installed
on it. Both ends of the cable are in COM1.

In kermit I type:

SET line /dev/ttyS0
SET CARRIER-WATCH OFF
SET FLOW RTS/CTS
SET speed 9600
/dev/ttyS0, 9600 bps

(/root/) C-Kermit>CONNECT
Connecting to /dev/ttyS0, speed 9600.
The escape character is Ctrl-\ (ASCII 28, FS)
Type the escape character followed by C to get back,
or followed by ? to see other options.
----------------------------------------------------

that's it, nothing happens whatever I type.

This is not urgent or anything and can wait till monday, but can anyone
see where I might be going wrong?

FWIW the server that I'm trying to access was rebooted without Keyboard
or Video attached just as I left.

;D
