If you have never used the Debian installer on the current distribution
you would not be aware that there are two, one for Kernel 2.2 and a later
and in my opinion much better installer for the bf24 Kernel.
The Knoppix distributions include some much more recent software versions
than the Debian "stable" distributions, and will therefore have different
dependencies. If you install Knoppix then try to upgrade using the Debian
APT system, it spots these, and complains, which is what it is supposed to
do. You then have the options of installing required additional software,
which may require other items to be upgraded, or reverting to the older
versions. You will also find that, in common with some other distributions,
the Debian software versions contain modifications deemed neccessary to work
in the Debian environment.
