I kind of agree here - and went the fvwm2 route for a few months

in the end I reverted to kde because I like the task bar ...

I use the kde diary a bit and sometimes a few kde apps - but really it's 
just the task bar I found I couldn't live without...

does fvwm2 offer a taskbar that works well ?
