Well said.

Something I'd like to add to that is that if you think about it is
is easy to forge the sender of a paper letter.
But we as a society have evolved rules and behaviour, both social rules
and legal rules to deal with paper letters over many, many years.
Such as sealing letters in envelopes, and having a convention that it
is beyond a pale to extract the letter.
Forging the sender of a letter and the signature is legally wrong
(OK - I suppose the intent has to be fraudulent).
Also many people are angry at the recent rise in paper junk mail.

On the side of electronic mail, I'd say the majority of people,
not techies, have been using it for a few years at most.
Our society has not evolved the mechanisms to cope with
'bad behaviour'. 
Just my two pence worth.
