make xconfig
add SCSI CDROM support
modprobe sd_mod
mount /mnt/cdrom

mount: block device /dev/scd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only

I normally run stock kernels and avoid this bit of fun

but this machine has a too new network card for debian stable.
