[Gllug] university windows-only policy

Speaking as someone involved in university computing, and slightly
involved
in a project that allows students to connect to a network (using a Linux
machine to run the DHCP system!!) I would suggest you be very careful in
what you do. A lot of the 'we dont support Linux' comments from support
teams are more based on workloads than knowledge of the systems involved,
also finding methods to get around the security in place (for instance MAC
spoofing) can drop you in all sorts of bother... computer misuse act etc
etc... I suggest you talk to the university support team and basically
tell then you know what you are doing and you would like to connect. That
way you get them on your side (i.e. less work for them)...not against you.
